Should radiator fan come on when AC is turned on?
Both radiator fans should always run when the AC compressor is engaged. To check the temperature at which the fan comes on, turn the A/C off and keep the engine running until it reaches normal operating temperature. Most fans should come on when the coolant reaches about 200 to 230 degrees.
Are both radiator fans supposed to run at the same time?
They work separately, unless the car is hot, then they both come on. Does the A/C fan even work? Turn on the A/C to see if it does come on.
What can cause a cooling fan not to come on?
Six things may prevent an electric cooling fan from coming on:
- Defective temperature switch, coolant sensor or other sensor.
- Engine thermostat is stuck OPEN (engine never gets hot enough to turn on the fan)
- Faulty fan relay.
- A wiring problem (blown fuse, loose or corroded connector, shorts, opens, etc.)
- Bad fan motor.
When should the radiator fan kick on?
Your radiator fan should kick in at about 200 degrees Fahrenheit. If you notice your vehicle is overheating or at the very least running hotter than it normally does, listen for the fan to see if you can hear it.
Where is the sensor for radiator fan?
The cooling fan control module in your vehicle is located at the front left of the engine compartment next to the radiator.
Is there a fuse for the radiator fan?
A radiator fan is necessary to keep your car cool. The fuses inside of the radiator fan must be in good working order to make sure that the engine is able to stay cool. Without these components your car overheats.
How do I know if my cooling fan relay is bad?
Engine running hot One of the first symptoms commonly associated with a bad or failing cooling fan relay is an engine that runs hot or overheats. If you notice that your engine is running at higher temperatures than normal, that may be a sign that the relay is not functioning properly.
What fuse controls the radiator fan?
The cooling fan relay is normally located in either the underhood fuse and relay center or mounted to the electric fan assembly behind the radiator.
Can a bad thermostat cause fan not to come on?
Broken Thermostat Thermostats are known to go bad and cause all sorts of cooling issues. If this thermostat doesn’t open when the engine reaches the working temperature, the coolant will stay inside the engine block and the engine will start to overheat. This will result in the radiator fan not working.
What sensor controls the radiator fan?
coolant temperature sensor
On most modern cars, the cooling fan is controlled by the Engine Control Unit (ECU) which gets a signal from the coolant temperature sensor.
How do I know if my fan relay is bad?
Symptoms of a Bad or Failing Cooling Fan Relay
- Engine running hot. One of the first symptoms commonly associated with a bad or failing cooling fan relay is an engine that runs hot or overheats.
- Cooling fans do not function.
- Cooling fans stay on at all times.
Why is my radiator fan not working on my Honda Civic?
Figure 1. 1999 Civic under-hood fuse box with location of fan relay (circled in red). Another easy way you can check if the radiator fan switch relay is bad is to swap the radiator fan relay with the condenser fan relay. If the radiator fan begins working, this is an indication that the fan relay is bad.
What does the thermo switch on a Honda radiator do?
If the fan switch relay is giving off the appropriate readings and is in working condition, move on to the next step. The thermo switch (also called the cooling fan switch) sends a signal to the cooling fan, so the fan turns on if the coolant gets too hot.
Why is my radiator fan not working in my garage?
You also no longer hear the reassuring sound of the radiator fan kicking in when you pull into your garage. If this is the case, it might be time to check if the fan is working properly, and is cooling things down under the hood.
How can I tell if my radiator fan relay is bad?
Another easy way you can check if the radiator fan switch relay is bad is to swap the radiator fan relay with the condenser fan relay. If the radiator fan begins working, this is an indication that the fan relay is bad. If the fan switch relay is giving off the appropriate readings and is in working condition, move on to the next step.
