Our purpose is to strengthen the capacity of EarthShare North Carolina’s 70+ Member nonprofits to preserve and enhance the natural environment. EarthShare NC was founded in 1991 by a group of nonprofits with the goal of connecting more people and resources to the conservation movement.

As EarthShare approaches its 25th anniversary, we asked founder Earl Blauner, Kal Stein (EarthShare’s President & CEO from ’88-’15), and Board Chair and Executive Director of the American Institute of Architects [Georgia Association] Marci Reed to share their reflections on this milestone.
What is the fair EarthShare?
1. The area of available and ecologically productive land on earth, measured on a per capita basis.
What does footprint mean?
1 : an impression of the foot on a surface. 2a : the area on a surface covered by something a tire with a wide footprint the footprint of a laser beam. b : range of operation (as of a service) a global footprint. 3 : a marked effect, impression, or impact left a footprint in the field of research.
Fair Earth Share If the total area of productive land on earth is divided by the number of its inhabitants, there is 1.45 hectare productive land and 0.55 hectare fresh water available for each person. This is also called the ‘Fair Earth Share’.
What is footprint for kids?
The simplified carbon footprint definition for kids is: The amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere because of one’s own energy needs. This is called your “carbon footprint.”
What does the feet emoji mean?

How do you teach kids carbon footprint?
Encourage them to think of ways to reduce their footprint beforehand, then put those ideas into action on the planned day. Help each student create a list of steps they will take, and at the end of the day have them check off their list to see how well they did. Record the easiest actions to take on the board.
